Abstract :
This paper proposes a middleware to reduce the consumption of network resources and optimize the provision of location of traffic. This middleware, called MILCO (middleware for location cost optimization), selects the optimum location technique for each location request, i.e. the location technique that satisfies the required quality of service (QoS) and which, at the same time, minimizes the operating expenses of resources. In addition to this per request performance, MILCO takes advantage of ongoing and carried location processes to reduce the overall expenditure of resources. Results show that MILCO reduces the use of network resources (defined as a combination of several factors) in simulated scenarios, in which multiple location services are run. These benefits are greater as more location techniques become available in the network and the higher the system load is.
