  • Abstract
The land use and land cover changes have been issues for better understanding human-land relations and sustainable development of regional land sources. This paper was to analyze the land use and land cover changes in new land around Bohai bay with crisp ecosystem and fast development during last 20 years with RS and GIS taking Guangrao county as a case study. In this study, two Landsat TM images in October of 1985 and 2004 were processed using ERDAS9.2 software and supervised classification method in study for the land use and land cover of those two phases. Temporal and spatial patterns of land use and land cover changes in Guangrao county were analyzed. The results showed that the changes of saline and alkaline land to farmland and farmland to residential and industrial area were the main types of land use changes, and land reclamation, economic development and policy were the major driving factors of land use and land cover changes in study area from 1984 to 2004.
