Abstract
The paper presents a method for the estimation of the structure of a nonuniform subscriber loop in terms of the lengths of its composing sections. The method relies on the assumption that the sections are sufficiently long in order to cast the estimation problem in the form of a simple linear least-squares problem. The performances of the method are evaluated in simulation in the case of a subscriber loop composed of four uniform sections of different gauge kinds.
