Abstract :
Power cable diagnosis using isothermal relaxation current (IRC) method has been carried out on the under-grounded XLPE cables, and the results were compared with high voltage DC leakage current (HVDC) method, residual charge measuring (RCM) method. The results of IRC method were correspond with the other method´s results generally, and the estimated breakdown voltage calculated from the IRC method was equivalent with actual breakdown voltage. IRC method seems to be comparable to RCM method in accuracy. IRC method is more advantageous diagnosis method to run safely, quickly and economically. It is an economical way since cable system owners can attempt by themselves without giving stress to their cables.
