Abstract
This paper presents the harmonic current compensation and reactive power compensation using shunt active power line conditioner for the power distribution system. The compensation is based on the separation of fundamental component from the harmonic current drawn by the load. This separation is done using Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) based control method. The DC voltage of the capacitor is controlled using PI controller. The performance of Active Power Line Conditioner (APLC) is compared with two methods: i) Hysteresis current control method and ii) Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) method. The performance is analyzed for both steady state and dynamic state conditions. In addition, with harmonic current and reactive power compensation, the power factor is also improved.
