Abstract :
This paper presents a parallel thinning algorithm which processes binary images and produces the image skeletons which are either regions size independent (noise non-sensitive in small variation of shape (PSTA2)), or noise sensitive to the regions shape (PSTA1). A comparison of the proposed algorithm (parallel symmetric thinning algorithm (PSTA)) to a number of other parallel thinning algorithms is also provided indicating its advantages and disadvantages
