Abstract :
An adaptive order filter structure for image restoration, which utilizes a specific class of filters commonly known as L-filters is presented. The coefficients of the present filter change locally depending on the value of the robust estimate of the local standard deviation. The form used for this estimate is the median of the absolute deviations from the median (MAD). The proposed filter can adapt well to a variety of noise types. Computer simulations illustrate the new filter to be very competitive in restoration of images corrupted by different noise types without any prior knowledge about the noise
