Abstract :
Three dimensional downsampling of a wideband high-definition television signal provides an appropriate data rate for a digital transmission. Two well-known sampling patterns, fieldquincunx and linequincunx, have been proposed for an interlaced signal. By reproducing progressive frames in the receiver some of the disturbing effects of our present television system can be avoided. Multi dimensional digital filters are required both for interpolation a sequence of frames from spatio-temporally subsampled television fields. The paper deals with linear and movement adaptive systems for both sampling patterns with special regard to the attainable spectral behaviour. Problems posed by calculating a reliable motion control signal are analysed under consideration of the sampling pattern. Proposals are made for an improved motion detector by three dimensional signal processing.
