Abstract
An algorithm has been developed to design a low-profile transformer that has the highest power density and meets a given set of specifications. The maximum achievable power density for a given power level and output voltage has been computed based on only one fundamental constraint: the temperature rise. The algorithm combines analytical methods and numerical methods and has been realized by using a nonlinear optimization technique. Several transformers have been designed and built to verify the optimization results
