Abstract
This paper describes a design method of the application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for the digital audio signal level meter, which converts directly the digital audio signal to the level expression signal. At first, we define the level meter states and the state transitions for the level expression and the attack time and the release time for the level up/down behavior. Then we present an architecture of the level expression circuit based on the state transitions. This circuit can be constructed very compactly with counters, registers and some combinational circuits
