Abstract :
Propagation characteristics of Surface Plasmon Polariton (SPP) modes supported by thin metal films of rectangular cross-section have been determined through matching of trial field solutions on the boundary. Though simple and approximate, the method yields results that show good agreement with those obtained by conventional effective index and numerical methods. As an added benefit, one also obtains explicit expressions for the field components from this procedure.
