Abstract
We review the class of polynomial filters and their extensions, first introducing the Volterra (1887, 1913, 1959) series expansion that is at the basis of such filters. The main concepts and properties are given with reference to 1-D signals, while extensions to multidimensional (M-D) signals are then considered. Applications of such filters to image and video processing are also shown
