Abstract
This paper describes the design, implementation, and performance evaluation of a CORBA group communication service. It also evaluates the effect of CORBA in implementing a group communication service. The main conclusion is that CORBA can be used to implement group communication services and thereby achieve interoperability in a heterogeneous computing environment. However, there is a substantial performance cost. As a result, current CORBA technology is not suitable for implementing high performance group communication services.
