Abstract
A word spotting method based on top-down phoneme verification with a detection rate of 90.8%(ave.) is presented. This system, consisting of bottom-up phoneme detectors, top-down verifiers and a strategy script interpreter is tested with a strategy script description language. The results suggest that efficient phoneme based word spotting is better accomplished by combining bottom-up and top-down phoneme recognition functions.
