Abstract
To avoid surface abrasion while measuring the external diameter of the work piece with directly contact measurement, the eddy current sensor based non-contact on line measurement technique for the external cylindrical grinder is proposed. The experiment was carried out with different cylindrical work piece, some features including linearity, resolution and sensitivity were tested and the influence on measurement result with different materials was also discussed. Experiment results show that the proposed non-contact measurement method is feasible for cylindrical grinder, and the precision and efficiency could thus be improved.
