Abstract
Conventional componentwise transforn coding of the standard TV components YUV or YIQ respectively is considerably inefficient, processing these - in the statistical and visual sense - mutually highly dependent components separately. With luminance adapted transform coding of perceptually matched colour difference components a considerable reduction of irrelevancy and redundancy will be achieved. Thereby physical properties are taken into account as well as the structural similarity between luminance and chrominance images. Also visual cross masking effects are taken into consideration.
