Abstract :
The relative significance of scintillation fading and rain attenuation on low-availability VSAT satellite systems operating at the Ka and EHF bands is examined. The influence of such parameters as signal frequency, path elevation, time percentage, and climate is discussed. The study employs the simple rain attenuation model (SAM) and a scintillation fade model developed from Olympus satellite measurements in the United Kingdom
