Abstract
High-performance motor drive applications require smooth torque with minimum torque ripple. Considering the structure characteristic of surface-mounted permanent magnet machine, this paper describes the causes of torque ripple of it. From a machine design standpoint, the paper has analyzed the reasons that cause torque ripple generated by the interaction between the motor current and harmonic back-EMF, cogging torque. Investigating how the shape and magnetization pattern of the permanent magnets, pole-arc coefficient, eccentricity, Slot/Pole Combination effect on contents of harmonic back-EMF and cogging torque.
