Abstract
The multivariable function generator (MVFG) is a multiport device which, given a set of continuous bounded analog inputs at time t, produces estimates for a set of bounded outputs after a processing time delay of ??tu. The transfer characteristic relating the inputs and outputs can be both arbitrary and non-linear and are specified by defining the output variables at a finite number of coordinate points over the entire domain of the input set. The operation of the device is based on first order interpolation techniques and combines the flexibility and logic control capability of digital processing with the continuity and speed of analog processing. A significant improvement in the speed and dynamic error performance of the device is obtained because of its distributed processor architecture in which several relatively independent operations can proceed concurrently. Also described are some of the applications of the MVFG in modeling and simulation of real-time dynamic systems.
