Abstract :
The study of the human exposure to extremely-low frequency (ELF) and very-low frequency (VLF) magnetic fields have been found to cause health effects, such as leukemia, brain tumors and breast cancer. Three most commonly used composite environments, home, school and office, having various field-emitting devices such as a TV, microwave oven, monitor, computer, etc., were chosen for research. Both the magnitudes of the fields emitted by a source and its distribution were measured in isolation and in the composite environments. The analysis of the data revealed that individuals working and living in these environments are getting exposed to varying level of magnetic fields depending on how close and how long they work or live in the environments. Several suggestions were made to minimize the exposure. Since most of the people spend their time in one or more of the three environments, the findings will be relevant and useful to everyone
