  • Abstract
In this paper a network algorithm to compress and to reconstruct DICOM-images is presented. The algorithm consists of three parts: the bit-levels of the original image is classified on the basis of a temporary segmentation and analysis of the image structure and afterwards divided into two parts. The first part of the image consists of the highest bit-levels of the original image, the second one contains the rest of the original image. Depending on the segment analyst of the 2nd image the segment orientation is defined and the 2nd image is split in two areas. The first area is the object area, the second is the unusable area. Finally the first part of the image is coded by the LZW-method. The direction of code depends on the orientation of the segments. The region of the object of the 2nd image is JPEG coded. The results of a statistic model of this algorithm is also shown. The algorithm is implemented in the JAVA language
