Title :
SNMP/MBD hybrid network management
Author_Institution :
Columbia Univ., New York, NY, USA
Abstract :
In the context of bridging advanced research, new technologies, and emerging applications, an implementation is described, where management by delegation (MBD) and SNMP are integrated in a composite architecture. Also reviewed is the range of distributed management paradigms and centralized management paradigms. Agent technology advances are reviewed, in the context of the drive for self-manageability. A roadmap for a win-win community collaboration strategy is drafted, emphasizing rapid availability of advanced technology to the marketplace. Specific challenges and examples are provided, in the areas of high speed ATM networking, advanced telemedicine, and wireless/mobile satellite broadcast applications
