Abstract :
Based on the thesis that TMN concepts could be used for the provision of IN-like service features this paper introduces a TMN-based personal communication support system (PCSS), which has been developed and implemented jointly by GMD Fokus and the Technical University of Berlin on behalf of Deutsche Telekom. The PCSS supports personal mobility, personalized call management, service personalization, and service interoperability in distributed multimedia environments. The design of the PCSS is strongly influenced by research activities in the field of advanced telecommunications and distributed computing technologies, such as intelligent networks (INs), Universal Personal Telecommunications (UPT), telecommunications management network (TMN)/X.700 OSI management, X.500 directory, computer telephony integration and mobile computing. In particular, it takes into account the upcoming paradigm shift in telecommunications towards object-oriented service modelling as indicated by emerging OMG CORBA and TINA-C activities
