Preface [to the Eighth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR´05)]

On behalf of the organizing committee, the organizers are very pleased to present the technical program and the proceedings of the eighth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR2005). The PC chairs received help from a total of 115 reviewers including 40 members of the Program Committee making the task of the PC chairs a lot simpler. We have received a total of 309 submissions, of which 244 were accepted. Of the accepted papers, we scheduled 93 for oral presentation and 151 for poster sessions. The corresponding authors of the submissions were from 32 different countries across the six continents.
