Abstract
Single-phase line-starting PM synchronous motors require a single-phase power supply and no complex electronic control circuit to operate. Here, the single-phase line-starting permanent magnet (PM) motor is modelled, and the differential equations which describe the dynamic behaviour of the motor are solved numerically by Matlab/Simulink. The problems associated particularly with the starting and the direction of rotation of single-phase line-starting PM motors are summarised. The simulation results are verified by comparison with experimental results at different levels of supply voltage and load
