Abstract :
As the emerging cross research field of the acoustic, marine and information science, underwater acoustic sensor networks(UWASN) has not mature and general media access control protocol(MAC) yet. Three types popular wireless communication protocol, TDMA, 802.11 and S-MAC were researched and analyzed according that some respect performance of them is suitable for underwater acoustic channel. The modification for UWASN was put forward by analyzing and comparing the characteristics of three protocols, such as bandwidth utilization, time-lapse and energy consumption. Finally the simulation methods of MAC layer protocol for underwater acoustic channel were presented.
