Abstract
Integral photography (IP) technology provides a method for recording and display of 3D animated images by using 2D microlens arrays at real-time. The relationship between the 3D resolution of an image and the optical parameters of the system was derived on the basis of analysis procedure for integral imaging formation, theoretical analyses of the technology have shown that the depth resolution is in inversely proportional to the diameter of the element microlens and the transverse resolution limit is in direct proportion to the diameter of the element microlens. Based on above works, we derive the optimum diameter of the element microlens in order to obtain a near flat 3D resolution property over a wide rang of depth.
