Abstract :
Current telecommunications networks are vertically integrated and operate within simple business models. Convergence of services requires the support of multiservice networks, the so-called next generation networks. Telcos planning and implementing new services have to formulate business plans and evaluate technology for the multiservice network. This paper presents a systematic approach to information handling, modelling and utilization to support a holistic assessment of technologies in the light of business requirements. A telecom map is proposed which addresses the concerns of functionality, relationships, implementation constraints and business considerations. The map is placed in a framework, and has three associated representations: domains, information relationships and the evaluation process
