Abstract :
In this paper, the tradeoff between call blocking and rate dropping in multicasting networks is analyzed. Specifically, we study the differences in network performance under the following two scenarios: admitting more high class users and admitting more low class users. Closed-form expressions for the two end-to-end performance measures are given. However, since the blocking probability requires prohibitive computational efforts even for small-size networks, an accurate and time-efficient approximation is developed through the reduced load method. The results of this paper can be used to coordinate the access bandwidths of the receivers to maximize the throughput of the network
