Title :
Parallels - communication challenges and opportunities in-vehicle and in manufacturing
Author_Institution :
Dept. of Mech. Eng., Clemson Univ.´´s, Clemson, SC
Abstract :
Many communication challenges in the factory are similar to those in the automotive vehicle. Many solutions appropriate for one environment could and/or should be similarly applicable to the other. Common technologies do sometimes appear in the two application areas, but the two technical communities may not regularly collaborate in synergy. Appreciation of situational similarities can increase support for technology development and accelerate application acceptance. This talk will first compare and contrast factory and automotive environments and requirements. A technology life cycle comparison and example will then illustrate how coordinated development can be very synergistic. The environments and coupled life cycles point to research and development areas of potential mutual opportunity.
