Abstract :
Nowadays, University is one of the places where is possible to link the competitive business world and the challenges that society are concerned with. In this paper, a concrete example is proposed in order to show how technology can be used to look for solutions to environmental society concerns. University should not only deal with theoretical research, it must develop real-world products to fulfil society requirements. That is how the University could be understood as an active part of society. As an example to show the methodology proposed for University research, a forest fire detection project is presented in this paper. In this example, a new GSM application is presented to face two real problems using the University developed technology. The starting point is the information provided by the company about a real need to be satisfied which is the main goal in this case
