Abstract
Looks at the new technological miracle known as cellular radio, PCS (personal communication services) or wireless communication. There may be some distinctions in the definition of each of the three, so for my purpose, I just call the subject “wireless”. The author traces the history of the subject, from Guglielmo Marconi (who, although his early experiments were restricted to sending dots and dashes, had vision, drive, a flair for publicity and good family connections) to pioneers in the mobile telephony field, such as Craig McCaw (who saw radio paging technology as a lead to establishing a new national telephone infrastructure using digital technology)
