Abstract :
Clockwise and counterclockwise bistability are demonstrated in 1550 nm vertical-cavity semiconductor optical amplifiers (VCSOAs) at input powers two orders of magnitude lower than previously. Butterfly bistability is also observed for the first time in VCSOAs.
