  • Abstract
The application of Automatic Parking System (APS) has grown dramatically in recent years. The APS is definitely a convenience for both new and experienced drivers when parking in a metropolis. In this paper, we suggest a “Training-Recording-Play back” approach for automatic parallel parking. Using ultra-sonic rangefinders as principle sensors, we have successfully implemented a prototype of APS based on an 8-bit microcontroller and tested the APS function on a test vehicle. By comparing this APS with other similar contraptions, this approach contains three main features: least sensors required, least computing power required and excellent adaptability. With these features, our prototype poses as a simple and inexpensive alternative for the existing APS in luxury vehicles.
