Abstract
A fuzzy rule based approach to information retrieval is presented. To take into account the vagueness which characterizes the synthesis of the document´s contents we propose a document representation which is based on a linguistic evaluation of the significance of terms. We also define a rule based mechanism to produce a linguistic estimate of the relevance of a document to a user´s query in which significance labels are specified for each term
