Abstract
This paper describes a limited vocabulary, isolated word recognition system which has been developed under the sponsorship of the Veterans Administration to provide the severely disabled with an efficient and effective voice activated control system. The system recognizes 99 words or short phrases which permit the user to control his local environment, answer and dial the telephone, generate typewritten messages and perform elementary mathematical calculations. Each function is activated by a direct verbal command. All inputs may be verified on a visual display before any affirmative action is taken.
