Abstract
The switched reluctance machine (SRM) attracts many industrial and transportation applications, but their high vibration and acoustic noise still prevent them from being widely used for some sensitive areas. These include medical surgery devices and automotive traction development etc. Different design and control strategies, targeted at lowering vibration and acoustic noise of the SRM are reviewed and compared. The analysis, calculation and measurement of the SRM vibration and noise are also given. Useful guidelines for the design and control of the low vibration SRMs to benefit the industry are given.
