Abstract
Voice programming for numerical control (VNC) allows factory personnel using normal English words to speak commands needed for parts programming, thereby eliminating the need to convert the information into a computer compatible format. When using VNC, the individual verbally calls out each basic operation. The system is interactive in that each command is displayed sequentially for positive verification after which the next entry required is displayed. A plotter peripheral provides the capability of simultaneously plotting out the machine tool motion while data is entered by voice. This system is based upon the VIP-100 speech recognition system described at the 1972 IEEE Speech Conference.
