Abstract :
This session highlights the variety of instruments, environments, and scales at which current and wave measurements are applied. In one paper, current measurements are presented from depth of 8000 m and in another, the instruments are dry at low tide. In one case, wind waves are of interest and in another, ship wakes. Some measurements are made at a single point while other profile over 10´s of meters. The juxtaposition of technologies is also interesting: in papers presented here, the sub-surface current measurements are made acoustically (contrast that to what would have been the case 20 years ago). Another interesting contrast in terms of technological sophistication is the comparison between radar measured surface velocities with drifter track data; the latter technology requiring nothing more than a piece of driftwood.
