  • Abstract
This paper deals with a new method of analyzing the sound image in stereophonic reproduction. The principle of the theory is based on the rather obvious fact that one will recognize stereophonic reprodution as a natural sound image, when the interaural amplitude and phase difference correspond to the case of hearing a single sound source. The distance of the sound image, which is not included in previous theories, can be evaluated by this new theory. A 2-cannel stereophonic system, with a new concept of sound image distance, is also shown as an example of the synthesis theory.
