Abstract :
The paper compares the operation of a stochastic nonlinear load-an arc furnace with a periodic nonlinear load. The possibilities of partial or total harmonic distortion compensation are presented. The paper focuses on two different approaches of compensation which are described in detail. The cost-effectiveness of the three methods is discussed in conclusion
