Title :
Resolving notational ambiguities in symbolic computation systems
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
The advent of interactive computing brings with it a wide range of problems stemming from the ambiguity of natural mathematical notation. We discuss these problems and propose methods for dealing with them. Our examples are taken from the Maple (Abell and Braselton, 1994) symbolic computation system and from Scientific WorkPlace (Hardy and Walker, 1995), the natural mathematical interface to Maple and Mathematica
