Abstract :
The Naval Environmental Display Station (NEDS), used for access to, display of, and dissemination of weather and oceanographic information is operational at Naval Oceanographic Command components throughout the world. Raw environmental data is processed at the Fleet Numerical Weather Central in Monterey, CA, and forwarded to Weather Centrals in the form of weather/ oceanographic analyses and forecasts which are then displayed on the NEDS. In addition, the NEDS has access to any piece of weather information anywhere in the world which is generally available to Government Weather Services. With this sort of information at his fingertips, the field forecaster can readily assess the environmental impact on any Fleet operation, and provide advice accordingly. The safety of Navy ships and personnel demands no less.
