Abstract
The paper proposes a new design method for fuzzy logic speed controllers for brushless DC motor drives. The fuzzy controller control surface is initially shaped taking as reference the control surface derived by the PI controller for the same application. The tuning process is performed by a shape-parameter looking for the best transient of system for step changes of reference signal. The proposed method is simple and can be easily implemented as offline tuning subroutine
