Abstract
It is noted that telecommunications providers are actively preparing for the challenges of offering myriad services in the coming information age. For most companies, this preparation effort is primarily focused upon the anticipated needs of the customers. This focus could be transformed into an idealized model of the future telecommunications network´s evolution. It is argued that this model should be based on the platform of standards currently being matured in the international and national telecommunications and computer standards bodies. It is also hoped that this idealized model could indicate some gaps in the current effort
