Abstract :
In order to develop a simple and inexpensive vocoder two systems of bandwidth reduction were studied. The first is based on the analytic properties of band-limited signals. The system uses a PLL and an envelope detector on each of four 1-octave filters. In the second, after the separation of each formant with a special tracking filter the linear prediction parameters are easily computed from zero-crossings and envelope measurements.
