Abstract :
The three-dimensional Poisson processes model recently has been used in acoustic reverberation from the ocean volume, surface and bottems. In this study the 3D Poisson pro - cess rms, average number of envelope peaks, amplitude pdf and peak amplitude pdf are investigated more throughly than before, using simulated data. A general empirical curves relating target density with the average number of envelope peaks and with rms are found and it is concluded that the average number of envelope peak, and rms are more useful for the estimation of target density, indipendent of the target reflectivity distribution and, as expected, the envelope peak amplitude pdf, is found to be more useful for the estimation of the target reflectivity distributions.
