Abstract
We study the amplification of 40 Gb/s RZ signals (having 7 ps-long pulses) in a high gain (30 dB) semiconductor optical amplifier. We report an experimental comparison between straightforward amplification and amplification assisted by the use of both continuous wave (CW) and modulated holding beams.
