Abstract
The paper provides an overview on the evolution of Nortel´s Enterprise Network, and the challenges needing to be addressed as it evolves to meet the needs of the corporation. It discusses the following: the network´s architecture at the start of the 1990s; the challenges presented by the corporation and the emerging telecommunications environment; the network´s current architecture; and the challenges faced today with the evolution of the network as we progress toward the millennium. Global Enterprise Services (GES) is referred to throughout the paper. It is the organisation within Nortel, with responsibility for the delivery and support the corporation´s telecommunications and computer network infrastructure
