Abstract :
The PV powered DC floating pump offers new hope for at least two million small farmers in India for meeting their irrigation water needs from open wells. A six-year 200-PV-pump demonstration program in the Southern States of India by the Polyene Group has established that the DC floating pump (600 to 860 Wp capacity), powered by amorphous silicon PV modules, is ideally suited for open well irrigation up to 5 acres of land. Design changes and product improvements carried out to the Polyene DC Floating pump system, over the last six years, on the basis of field performance/feedback, have also been profiled in the paper
